What acupuncture can do for you?

Acupuncture treats an imbalance of Qi. It does work in most cases. The needles used are extremely fine (about the same as a hair) and it does not hurt. Most insurance companies cover acupuncture treatment. We will call your insurance company and file your claim.

Herbs

Herbs help improve the quality of our health. The Chinese have been developing and improving herbs for 5,000 years.

Chinese herbology posits that all diseases stem from imbalance occurring in the organ system. A properly balanced system will resist and destroy bacteria before it can cause disease.

Our family background goes back over four generations of herbalists.

Weight Loss

Acupuncture for Weight Loss?? How does it work? Is it for me?

Weight gain, according to Chinese theory, is a result of an out of balance digestive system.

Acupuncture for weight loss is effective in strengthening the digestive system and, along with a nutritional eating plan and herbs, designed for an individual’s specific life style and other medical issues (not a short term quick fix diet), to promote good health and energy, as well as a moderate exercise program. It will improve your metabolism and help burn more calories at a faster rate.

Acupuncture for weight loss is the insertion of needles into the skin, along with electric stimulation to turn them, for approximately a half hour. You will feel heat and some tingling and possibly some numbness. Other benefits include regulation of the menstrual cycle in women as well as better mood, with lesser mood swings, and a lesser feeling of fatigue than before the treatment.

The use of acupuncture for weight loss targets on certain points on the body to create better results. These points include the mouth, stomach, lungs, endocrine, and adrenal, along with the ovaries, spleen, kidneys and thyroid. Each point works on different areas of the individual person’s weight related problems.

Side effects for weight loss may include dizziness or light headedness, nausea and headaches. These are short term, but you should immediately let the acupuncturist know if you experience them.

Tui Na

Chinese bodywork massage therapy used in China for 2,000 years. It uses massage and manipulation techniques to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi ("Chi") through the channels of your system, allowing the body to naturally heal itself.

Qi Gong

Physical Benefits Of Qigong Practice

The ancient practice of Qigong (life-force cultivation) – a form of Taoist Yoga – has numerous benefits. These benefits have been experienced directly by many centuries of qigong practitioners and, more recently, have been documented by a plethora of scientific studies.

Qigong practice makes the body strong and supple. It improves balance, stamina and flexibility. It has positive effects on the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, endocrine, immune and central nervous systems. It tends to create smooth skin, and a pleasant feeling of deep warmth within the body. It increases sexual vitality, and allows our sleep-time to be more deep and restorative. Over time, qigong practice can reduce or eliminate chronic pain. It also has the power to reverse the aging process, and restore youthfulness.

Emotional Benefits:
The smooth and balanced flow of qi created by qigong practice shows itself as a joyful, relaxed, optimistic and energized state of mind. While the emotional energies of anger, fear, anxiety or grief still may arise, they will be much less “sticky” – and be held and then dissolved within the larger field of joy, gratitude, acceptance and equanimity.

Mental & Spiritual Benefits Of Qigong :
The abundance of clarified energy and mental stillness generated by qigong practice supports great mental clarity, and nourishes both intuition and creativity. As our intelligence becomes rooted in a connection to the inner body, it widens and deepens in increasingly wonderful ways.

As we deepen in our qigong practice, our spiritual channels – such as the third-eye – gradually open. We become aware of more subtle realms of Being, and begin to experience, directly, our interconnectedness with All-That-Is.

To Reap The Benefits, You Must Practice!:
The best way to begin to reap these many benefits of qigong practice is, of course, to begin to practice! Which of the many available forms you choose will depend upon your individual circumstances: your personal preferences, what’s best for your physical condition, and the availability of teachers and/or classes near to where you live.

Moxa

Moxibustion or moxa treatment is an oriental medicine therapy involving the burning of moxa or mugwort herb (Artemisia vulgaris) close to the skin to treat diseases or produce analgesia (pain relief). Moxibustion may also utilize wormwood or other combustible and slow-burning substances. The purpose is to strengthen and stimulate the blood and qi (life energy) of the body.

Moxibustion plays an important role in the traditional medical systems of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Tibet, and Mongolia. The basic technique involves placing burning mugwort over the affected area on the body, particularly on an acupuncture point, and removing it before burning the skin (Kim 2001). Suppliers usually age the mugwort and grind it up to a fluff; practitioners burn the fluff or process it further into a stick that may resemble a (non-smokable) cigar or into a cone. They can use it indirectly, with acupuncture needles, or sometimes burn it on a patient's skin.

Moxibustion is generally used in conjunction with acupuncture techniques, and the Chinese character for acupuncture translates literally into "acupuncture-moxibustion" (Kim 2001). Moxibustion has been used for perhaps more than 3,000 years (Kim 2001).

Moxibustion has been shown, in experimental trials, to have success in turning breech babies (Cardini and Huang 2001; Neri et al. 2002, 2004), and it also is used in such conditions as treating inflammations, menstrual cramps, chronic problems, and "deficient conditions" (weakness).

Cupping

The therapeutic application of bell shaped cups that create suction and negative pressure. Cupping is used to drain access fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue, bring blood flow to stagnent skin and muscles and stimulate the peripheral nervous system.

Plum Bloom Needle

The Plum blossom needle and the Seven-Star needle are special tools that are composed of a small bunch of needles attached to a handle like a hammer or broom. They are often used in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy. The affected area would be lightly tapped starting at the toes or fingers and then up the legs and arms.

Plastic, disposable plum blossom needles or seven-star needles are available for treatment at home.

Gua Sha

Involves stimulation by pressuring the skin in strokes with a round edged instrument which results in the appearance of small red sha. The purpose of Gua Sha is to remove blood stagnation, allowing normal circulation.

Facial

Facials are skin treatments for the face, generally given by licensed estheticians, that maintain and improve the quality of the skin. Facials tend to include an analysis of the skin, followed by a series of cleansing methods of the skin, exfoliation, a facial massage, steam and a cream or moisturizer.
While facials have a variety of benefits for the skin on the face, there are also many health benefits as well. Read on to find out more about the health benefits of a facial.

Significance

According to the New Life Journal's "A Facial it's More Than Meets the Eye" by Julie Pagano, facials regulate the immune system, aid in detoxification, reduce the amount of fluid that has built up in the body, and aid in stress relief when it includes "aromatherapy, lymphatic drainage, exfoliation treatments and acupuncture." Lymphatic drainage helps release toxins that have built up in the body.

Types: Benefits of Facial Massages in Facials
Facials typically involve massages. These massages aid in blood circulation. Massages during facials also help with lymphatic drainage, and aid in the relaxation of the facial muscles which can slow the onset of wrinkles in the face. Skin cells can also be renewed by using this technique, which can also reduce puffiness and sagging in the face.

Function
When a person is struggling with acne, suffering from a dull complexion, or facing a superficial skin issue, regular facials can help fix these problems. Facials can give a person a clean and bright complexion, as well as remove dirt and blackheads. Paraffin facials which penetrate deep into the skin, have anti-aging benefits, too. Additionally, when a face mask is applied to the skin during a facial, it helps tone and clarify the skin
